2024 A Year In Review - journaling practise

2024 A Year In Review - journaling practise

It's tempting to rush into goal-setting as we stand on the cusp of a new year. However, before we dive into envisioning an exciting future, it's essential to take a moment to reflect on the journey that was 2024. This intentional pause not only allows us to celebrate our wins and understand our missteps but also sets the foundation for growth and more meaningful goal-setting in 2025.

Here is a summary of the online class we ran in December - if you would like the video lesson you can get the link here

You wouldn’t go for a run without stretching (I hope) or start cooking without preheating the oven. Reflection is a key first step in our goal-setting process.
“Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.” – Carl Jung
Reflection helps us break free from the cycle of setting the same goals year after year and ending up in the same place. Instead, it enables us to truly understand what we need, what drives us, and how to create a life aligned with our values and aspirations.
This exercise is about getting to know yourself better: uncovering how you work best, what motivates you, and what brings you joy. Grab your journal and a cup of tea (or your favourite drink), and take time to ask yourself these thoughtful questions:

What brought me joy this year?

Reflect on the moments, activities, achievements, and relationships that ignited genuine happiness within you. Consider scrolling through your photo album to jog your memory or simply allow whatever comes to mind.
As Brené Brown reminds us: "Joy is not a constant. It comes to us in moments—often ordinary moments. We risk missing out on joy when we get too busy chasing down the extraordinary."

What did I learn about myself this year?

Even in challenging moments, every experience offers valuable lessons—though at the time it may feel like a hot mess. Without judgement or criticism, what did you learn this year? What did you discover about your habits, how you work best, what motivates you, where you got stuck, what surprised you, and your emotions and patterns?

What do I wish I had done differently?

Hindsight, a magical thing. Tap into that knowledge—imagining you got the year again—what do you wish you had done differently? Use this reflection as a guide for the coming year, not a source of regret. Be curious and kind!

What am I proud of in 2024?

Acknowledge your achievements, no matter how big or small. Sometimes it's not the major goals and milestones we are most proud of, but the seemingly small, daily actions that add up.

Where did I spend most of my time, energy, and resources this year?

This is one to be deeply curious about, when you think about where you invested your resources, is this in alignment with what you (I repeat... you) truly desire.

What habits and patterns held me back?

What am I choosing to leave in 2024?

Drop it like it’s hot, my friend. Intentionally write down what you are choosing to let go of—mindsets, habits, limiting beliefs, commitments—whatever feels true and no longer necessary.

I'm proud of you, and I hope you are too!
