The Art of Letting Go

The Art of Letting Go

Try this with me:

Breathe in for a count of four. Hold the breath in for a count of four. Release the air out for a count of four. Hold the breath out for a count of four. Do that three more times.

When you let that breath out, were you worried you’d never get a breath again? When you held the breath out and sat for a count of four in the space of nothingness did you panic? No, because you have a deep understanding of how your breath works and you trust it. You trust it enough to let go, to sit and wait, to breathe and hold that breath safely.

In order for that new air to come you had to let that stale air go. The new breath didn’t come while the old breath was there – your body physically doesn’t have the space.

It’s the same in your life, we have to let go of the old to make space for the new. I’m not saying we throw caution to the wind, burn down our entire existence, quit the job and ditch the lot. We live grounded in reality. However, it does require us to look at what is currently there and where we need to make space.

Letting go is a conscious process, it’s a choice we make over and over again. I promise you are going to receive so many opportunities to try, so if you don’t get it right the first time, my dear, do not worry you’ll have many more chances.

Imagine whatever in your life that is no longer serving you is like a car in a single car spot. No other car (maybe a sexier, faster, dreamer car) will come park there because there is simply no room. We must let go of the old to make space for the new, the true and the more aligned.

Try this journaling prompt:

What no longer serves you that you are choosing to let go of? These might be beliefs, mindsets, obligations, perceived pressure, things, relationships.

Try some of these Letting Go rituals:

  •  Daily practices like journaling and meditation offer us space to come back to ourselves and release those past versions and layers. You could also try writing it on a piece of paper and burning it.

  • Washing your body or hands and imagining the energy of the thing you’re letting go of washing down the sink. Or even better, go dive into the ocean to release it energetically.

Letting go is a choice and a conscious process to do time and time again.
